Defined
Typically, the folding travel trailer, also called
fold down trailers, pop-up campers, and folding
camping trailers range from 18 to 25 feet in length.
The longer trailers may have a cargo storage area on
the front of the trailer which has added to overall
length. These RVs are towed by means of a bumper
hitch or a frame-mounted hitch attached to the rear
of a towing vehicle. The are generally light weight
and able to be towed by smaller vehicles, such as
mini vans, small SUVs and trucks. They are typically
aluminum or fiberglass sided and are designed with
compact space in mind. They have portions of the
main unit that expand for more sleeping and living
space. They expandable areas are most likely
composed of a canvas material with zipper windows.
This combination of tent and trailer provides the
RVer with a galley, dining area, sitting area,
sleeping space and many times a bathroom. They often
feature outdoor washing stations and cooking
stations. They are big on storage and comfort, and
fold into compact, towable units allowing the
traveler to bring all the necessities and
conveniences of home along for the ride.
